Happy Holidays from My Family to Yours

I was up on Pittsburgh Moms Blog last week writing about holiday traditions.

What are your families’ traditions? Feel free to leave in the comments section.

“If you build it, they will come.” …”This famous line from the movie Field of Dreams was the hope that my husband and I had when we built our home four years ago. With my side of the family spread up and down the Eastern seaboard and my husband’s family in Ireland, we had to build not only our family home, but a place that extended family would visit and feel very welcome.

And, I’ve had no complaints so far. I love having the family gathering place. For Thanksgiving and for Christmas, I have out-of-town company. We host both Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, the big night in our family tradition. I love hosting, but also know how difficult it is to do the traveling, because I did that across country for many years.

I love Christmas because it really is a season for us, not just one party. Our home is filled with laughter and the smell of freshly made goodies for several solid weeks. We put our children to sleep with the comforting sounds of adult conversation drifting up the stairs while visions of sugar plum dance in their heads. We pour copious amounts of wine and my husband makes Irish coffees by the gallons – the good ones, with Baileys. For all of you who host, for all of you who travel, and for everyone in between, wishing you all the very happiest of holidays with whomever you call family.”
